no start after weekend sitting

I have an 01 F-550 w/7.3. When the truck sits over the weekend I cannot get it started. There are no engine codes. The HPOP is full and only black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. After a very long time and about an hr of battery charging the truck starts but no throttle response til engine warms. Any ideas here??

Not sure but here is a bump. Is the oil and filter fresh? How about the fuel and filter? Is this a recent development or going on for a while?

I would suspect weak batteries. Try cleaning all the battery post connections, and make sure the the water levels in each cell is up.

Just changed the oil and filter. I also checked the batteries and they are both fully charged when I tried to start it. I notice that I do get black smoke while cranking the engine.

It does sound like weak batteries... How old are they? I would still get them load tested. Make sure they unhook one during the test, so they don't load them both up at the same time.
