Ever do this!

Well, Ive done it good this time. I have degreased, sanded, sandblasted, welded, and painted all sorts of parts on my 78 F250 4X4 Supercab.

Ive spent hours and I do mean hours looking for parts that have gone MIA. I have managed to locate all but one part so far. I spent half the day Sunday and ALL day Monday cleaning out my garage in fustration trying to find one stupid bracket.

The back of my daily driver looks like a scrappers gold mine. Cast Manifolds, power steering pumps (new and old style), wires and more wires, misc engine parts, heads, and some much more.

Ive looked everywhere and cannot find this one stupid bracket for the tranfercase shifter.

My truck is a full time 4x4 so I believe Im gonna have a hell of a time finding the bracket in the local salvage yards as I have only seen one other full time 4x4 in my local yards and that was many years ago.

There are two brackets for the transfer case shifter, and Im missing one. Anyone have a spare bracket?!?!?!?!?!?

WOW,

88 views and not one person has ever lost a part!

I guess im the most disorganized guy ever.

Yesterday I went to a local yard that I know stays open late, and found he has scrapped all but two 73-79 trucks. Both trucks were 4x4's but both were on their chassis, so I was unable to check and see what the T-case shifter looked like.

I dont know for certain if the full time 4x4 shifter is unique to the truck or if it is the same for all 4x4 78ish trucks.

I plan on visiting one other yard Saturday morning before going back to check on the T-case shifter. Anyone have a picture of their non full time 4x4 T-case shifter assy so I can compare?

Or have a spare Shifter assy they could spare if my full time 4x4 shifter is unique?

I was going to reply earlier, but I couldn't find my keyboard!

Of course we all loose stuff, I once took apart two FE engines and did not have enough hardware to put one engine back together again. I still to this day have no idea where those extra intake bolts and valve cover bolts ran away to, but I was short one of each.

It might not be that nobody else looses parts, just nobody has that part.

In fact, i spent hours yesterday looking for transmission bolts, exhaust bolts and starter bolts that i'v misplaced, lol

SUCCESS!!!

I managed to find a bracket thanks to some detective work.(bracket in back)

After looking online trying to decipher the difference between full time and part time transfercases, I thought I would check one of my favorite interchange sources. Car-parts.com! After checking the site I realized that my buddy had a transmission assy and full time transfer case in his inventory (on the shelf, didnt think he would). Figuring the assy should at least have the shifter and linkages on it. They were listed as assemblys so I got some locations and went hunting. Turns out his idea of assembly is trans and adapter, not trans-adapter-transfercase. So I went to the location where the t-case was and did a happy dance.

SO...

lets consider this lesson learned on the next truck.

Take LOTS of pictures...
Bag and Label EVERYTHING!!!
Take LOTS of pictures...
Find a safe spot for EVERYTHING!!!
Take more pictures...
Plan on buying parts you thought would be good...
Save pictures on a dvd!!! So when your computer crashes (because you had to see that video on that site you knew you shouldnt have been on) you will at least still have PICTURES.

I've lost a few parts putting my project together and had to keep going back to salvage yards trying to find the same parts. Frustration to say the least. But, I'm glad you managed to find your part.
