I changed my mind (again) and deicded to really go with a 408w stroker. I'd like to do some decent off-roading and maybe some river fording in my truck and I'd feel better if I had a snorkel but, I think the normal one are ugly. I'm going with a TF "R" intake with a Accufab 90mm throttle body and I'll use a 90mm MAF. This equates to about a 4" tube from TB--MAF.
Now here comes the important part.
After the MAF I'd like to increase the tubing out to 5" or so and run it underneath the cab. Then I'll have it pop up into the drivers side rear corner of the cab and go all the way up to the roof. I'll cut a hole in my roof for the tube and on top of the tube I'll put a long wide hood/roof scoop (but not too tall) that reaches almost to the windshield to get some good air.
What do ya think?
Provided I can actually do it and have the proper seals everywhere they need to be so no water gets into the tubing; do you think that would significantly restrict air flow or should it still breath fine?
Which truck are you talking about? The 91 or 79 in your sig? If it's the 91, I wouldn't even consider doing any river driving unless the river is low enough to stay below the engine bay. Otherwise you're going to get water into a lot of electrical components and spend a lot of time and money fixing it.
If it's the 79, well, you'd probably be okay. Not nearly as many electrical components to worry about. But like quicklook2 said, you're probably looking at getting water in the cab. Why not just go with a standard snorkel, but modify it so that you can remove it where it exits the engine bay? That way you can remove it when not off-roading but easily attach it when you need it.
