Howdy folks. I'm close to paying my car off and will be in the hunt for a pickup very soon. I don't like General Motors so that narrowed me down to Dodge and Ford. I like Ford anyway (bias? lol) and really feel I would like to give the V10 a try. I'm a fan of the 7.3 Power Stroke but simply do not want a diesel pickup; I get my diesel fix at work. Anyway, I've searched high and low for "the perfect" one and this is about the closest I can find. Seems like a very nice pickup: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...r_id=261232115 I may take it for a spin tomorrow.
I've read Monster-4's "top 10" list of things to look for on a Super Duty and V10 and have a few questions. I read about the spark plug issue, would that still be an issue in this 2007? If so, is there anything that can be done to prevent that from becoming an issue? Exhaust studs. Again is this still an issue in a 2007? And just as a general question, does anyone have thoughts on the 2 valve vs. the 3 valve V10, good bad or indifferent? Thanks, I look forward to your feedback.
2007 will not have the spark plug issue. If anything, they will not come OUT when you want them to
I've read of one person having broken studs on a 2005. Strange, to say the least, it's very uncommon on the 3-valvers because the exhaust manifold is not a "log" so it doesn't push and pull on the studs as much.
Good price, though you might want to look for at least an extended cab if you are tall - the seat wont slide back far enough in a standard cab (I'm tall @6'4" and did find out the hard way about standard cabs)
I have a V10 as a daily driver. It's a super truck. I do use it to haul a 34' fifth wheel camper which weighs in at about 12,000 pounds.
Don't expect great gas mileage with this truck - it's a heavy duty work horse, not an econobox.
Expect to put brakes, rotors as well as shocks on it - they were not Ford's better ideas. Mine at ~61K miles has the OEM Continental rock hard tires at only about half wear. It has only been back to the dealer for two taillight bulbs in warranty as well as a computer reflash, also in warranty. Nothing else (so far) has gone wrong.
My yearly maintenance is a $25 Motorcraft Semi syn oil change and filter every 3-5K miles (the lesser miles if I'm hauling the trailer a lot) plus a $15 air and a $10 gas filter every year. I have a set of $park plugs (~$100 worth!!)to install someday, but it runs so well that they are sitting on the shelf (I had a partly clogged fuel filter, not bad plugs)
Hey thanks for the feedback guys, appreciate it. I would really like to find a crew cab, but I can't find one around here that is 4wd and less than 100k miles! And that truck does seem like a good deal. Although the seat part scares me, I'm 6'3". So I may do some more searching but I am pretty well sold on the V10! When I make a decision, I'll let y'all know.

Thanks again.
They're out there - but when diesel fuel went to over a buck more then gas last year, they got grabbed up - at least in my area. Now that diesel is down to about the same price, the V10's should again start hitting the lots.
Consider a Super Cab as well - also a better chance of a long box if that's what you need. I do miss the long bed pulling my 5th wheel camper
Hi again folks, sorry to bring this back. Well I decided to pass on that black one. I hated the seat (like Irelands child said) and it was uncomfortable. Now I have ran across this one and fell in love. http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...r_id=267768237
The spark plug issue scares me, but I'm going to go check this one out and if I can get financed, I'm in.
Nice, xlt, ZF6, Manuel 4x4 ,crew, V10s are rare! If you don't mind being short the 57 more HP the newer one has and the long box, go for it!.
That's better!!!
Now have an Oasis(on this site) and Carfax report run to make sure there are nor have been any major problems or wrecks. There are some problems with the 2 valve version with spitting spark plugs and exhaust manifold studs - but neither would keep me from a real nice V10/Supercab

You can go a bit lower on that one. Looks solid though.

Keep in mind that in MY03 the spark plug issue was corrected. So both Model Year 2003 and 2004 have the new 8 or 9 threaded heads for the plugs.
OP: That looks like a solid truck! I do agree with Irelands...for you to get an Oasis and CarFax run for added comfort.
IMO...I would offer at least 2k less than they are asking. Working my way back to the asking price. Good luck...and make sure to report back!
Like Biz said, spark plugs wont be an issue for an '03. With the 5 speed (nice find!) you proabably won't notice any difference between the 2v and the 3V motor.
Price is a little high, but I'd go do some horse trading if I was you.

I wonder how that 5 speed works. I've only used the ZF6, and it's basically a 5 speed anyway.
