1965 F100 400ci engine swap

Whats up everyone im new to this forum. Right now I have a 1965 Ford 100 2WD, I picked up this truck with a 351w and c4 tranny which i know is not original. Recently i ripped the engine out and tranny. I set in a 400ci from a 73 galaxie and added '82 Ford Pickup motor mounts and put a rebuilt C6 tranny behind it. Im having some issues with the engine mount towers, the ones that came with the truck are all hacked up and the engine (400) is sitting crooked. Ive searched all over the web and there is no kit to put a 400/351M engine in a 65 ford pickup. What do i do? Do i get the engine mount towers from any Ford Pickup equipped with a 400/351M??? Will any on these work for the most part at least with maybe a couple iron shims and some welding???

You don't need that part. That is for 64 & back. The 400 was offered in Ford pickups 77-79 and I believe the M uses the same perches as the 302, but some further checking would verify.

You should be able to use bolt in Ford donor parts for your swap.

Welcome to FTE

2WD only: 1969/79 F100 302 // 1975/79 F150 302 use the exact same perches (aka stands, towers, supports) as 1977/79 F100/350 351M/400.

Parts catalog sez:

DOTZ6028A replaced by D7TZ6028B .. Right Engine Perch.

DOTZ6029A replaced by D7TZ6029B .. Left Engine Perch.

Junkyard time: All these parts are obsolete, no Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any, and AFAIK, they are not reproduced.

Thickster, Welcome to FTE!
Your best source for most upgrade donor parts will be F-100 to F-250, from '73 to '79.
Be careful in buying parts. Your '66 is not like a '64 and earlier. They look the same on the out side, but nothing under the skin interchanges.
And when you find donor engine perches, look carefully where they are mounted in the donor truck. There are 2 sets of bolt holes for different perches; one is set a bit forward of the other. Mount them in your '66 just like they are in the donor truck, and you will have a factory - like engine installation.
Good luck!

I have a 400 in my 65. Use the towers from a 70's truck like everybody else says and it will be a bolt in type of thing. The only drilling you need do is re-drill for the trans. crossmember, because it needs to move back a couple of inches. You will catch a lot of hell from most guys because you are putting a 351m/400 in your truck but I love mine, it revs quick and is a real tire burner.....

the 400 was a good motor just born in a bad time in automotive history. It aint no high reving motor but will pull just about any stump out of the ground with minimal sweating.

That engine replaced the FE series in 77 and was considered a gas hog. Never heard it touted much for being a puller. It only had a about a 4-5 year run, so that says a little about it.

I think they can be rebuilt and made much stronger.

I have a 400 out of a 79 Bronco in my 66', It has a c6 from an 85 F350 behind it. I used the stock 6cyl perches that were in the truck with new, 79" Bronco motor mounts. Everything lined up perfect....bolted right in, no cutting. As far as the tranny cross member, I just had to drop it under the frame and sandwich in a small spacer. Almost a direct bolt in.

Oh, I got all three mounts brand new from AutoZone online for about $44 total.

Good Luck, Ted
