I just purchased a 07 F-150 screw with the audiophile set up. In the my previous truck I had two 10" MTX subs and I was considering trying to change out the 8" factory sub with one of the 10"'ers and then come up with some kind of storage unit for the rest of the area.
Has anybody tried this? can the stock box be cut out?
That project sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Subs have a minimum required volume (air space). The OE most likely needs a small air space, but your MTX subs will probably require just shy of a cubic foot each. Then there is the issue of the amp, the stock setup is just for low freq. filler, if you want boom out of it it will not supply the wattage you want. I think we found the OE systems to be in the area of 28 watts at 2ohm, but it's been a while since that thread came up. Your MTX most likely wants 100-200 watts at whatever ohm it is.
wow - shows what I know....I'll take it to the guys that installed it in my last truck and have them convert or replace the unit and the MTX's and the old amp
You're welcome. It shouldn't be too bad of a job to add an amp and a box/subs to your system. I think we also discussed this in that thread I was thinking of. It was just a few months ago, and I think it was for an explorer with the premium/sub audio system.
