no start problem

hey guys ive had this problem for a while and cant figure out what the problem is....when my truck is sitting all night long and i go out and start it, it starts fine also if im driving it and i shut it off for 5 mins or so and start it it also starts fine, but if i drive it till its up to temp, go to grab some lunch for 30-45 mins it doesnt want to start....it seems like its getting vapor locked because it turns over, and sounds like it wants to fire but it doesnt....any ideas?

Starting good when cold but not starting after the motor gets warmed up good is usually a sign that the injector pump is getting tired. Probably time for a rebuild.

get it up to operating temp and then if its hard to start back up pour some water over the ip and let the ip cool and if it starts right up thats a sure sign its the pump going out.

I wouldnt do this. While this test does work, i think i remember reading on here that its basically signing a death warrant for your IP. Im sure theirs other ways to test it.

I had the same problem after I put on a new IP. The timing was off. After I moved the IP timing, it started fine. I don't remember if the timing was advanced to far or not far enough.

well the ip was replaced but im not sure when because it does say remanufactured on the tag....unless ford started putting remaned pumps in new trucks....the truck has only 140000.....but like i said it starts fine cold and right after its been running but when it sits for 30 mins to 1 hr it dont want to start w/o ether....i sure hope it aint the ip because i have absolutely no money....i barely have enough to make it by here at college...although i have noticed it does have a slight rough idle....truck shakes little when idlein

I dont know if anyones told you yet, but you only want to use ether to get it started as a very last resort. When ya do use it you should disable the glow plugs and only use a very very very small amount.

well you can break the glow plugs and even the precups so atleast disable them if you are going to keep doing this. Find a diesel shop that can time your pump.
