I am looking to build a portable cab dollie to paint my 48 cab.I want to build it tall enough to be able to paint the bottom edges but not so high that I can't paint thr roof. Has anyone built one? Would like to see some picrures.
Take a look at the one Tim (fatfenders56) uses. It could have casters added. this one gives you the option to roll it so you can get to the bottom of the cab. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=89472&width=0
I have built a number of these dollies over the years...a few 2x4s and 4 cheap HF pneumatic casters. Less than $50 and it will roll anywhere...
Charlie,
Can you post the dimensions of your caster cart please, parts you used, lengths, widths, and some pictures of the caster cart without the cab on it please?

Charlie, I like your caster cart as well and would like the dimensions if you don't mind sharing.
I guess I could take some measurements tomorrow but here's a couple more pics for now. I made the rear cross bar just long enough to wedge up into the rear cab mounts (a 2x4 is just the right width for a snug fit). That cross bar is held to the frame of the dollie with a couple of long deck screws that I installed through countersunk holes I drilled up through the bottom of the dollie frame. I used a little carpenter's glue just to add some strength. The short 2x4's on the front corners bring the cab up to level and give me a good pad on which to mount the front cab mount bolts.
Charlie did you use six or eight inch casters? I went to HF and could not find pneumatic casters there.I ended up going to Tracter Supply and paying 50 bucks apiece.I just found them on line for 25 apiece.
FWIW, for about another $100, you can get the 4 casters foam filled. That gives the tire more strength, and they won't go flat all of the time. Or at least mine did.
Thanks Charlie! I have had trouble finding the inexpensive casters as well. What were the ones you used rated at? If you get a chance, lay a tape measure on it and get the outside dimensions. Looks like that might be a good labor day project. Beats the other things on my list today. Thanks again.
