Hi guys i am trying to get my switches and controls (ignition heater choke ect) out of my dash. I cant figure how to get them and the chrome rings around them off. Any ideas? Thanks
Some of the ***** are held on by spring tention. There's a small lot on the bottom side of the **** and need to use a small tool, mini screwdriver or something simular, and release the spring and the **** should come off. Can't recall if applying pressure forward or aft releases the spring. Be carefull, don't want for damage the ****, or the spring, it does not require force, it's like a concentric washer that slides onto the shaft. To remove the switch, there is a sloted nut that secures the bezel to the dash, and the object is to turn it counterclockwise using a small screwdriver, or something simular, without it slipping and scratching the dash. Once the nut is removed the bezel and switch will come out.
Which dash do you have? Round or sweep? There is a reason I ask. It is easier to remove switches from a dash with the round style speedometer. You can do the same with the sweep style just a little harder.
Round style: Remove dash bezel, 8 screws from around bezel and 4 screws from speedometer. remove carefully so the glass does not slide out. Now you have access to ***** and switches.
Light switch: look for push pin, hold down, remove **** and shaft (one piece) As stated earlier use a screw driver or a 1/2 inch chisel don't beat the chisel use it as a screw driver to remove slotted nut.
Choke cable: Disconnect from carb pay attention to routing of cable, Having access to back of choke cable is a godsend here. Using a 5/8 stubby wrench loosen nut behind dash remove unit the other switches and ***** are as stated earlier by daveengleson.
Good luck
Sorry, thanks for clarifying gangstakr. Yes the headlight **** with the release button, or push pin on the switch itself. And there's the choke cable. Thanks again. If remove the instrument cluster with the sweeping speedo suggest running a ground strap from metal portion of the cluster to perhaps brake assembly bracket, may be my imagination but seems to have settle the gauges on the 65 down.
