A few weeks back I noticed a leak in between the transfercase and trans, upon inspection two bolt heads were missing and three were loose. I ordered a new set of bolts and a new gasket. I also found that one u-joint was frozen, the one at the diff.
I removed and replaced the u-joint, installed a new gasket and the bolts. This cured the leak and a vibration that I was feeling in the drivers seat. Today I am changing the oil and noticed that it was leaking again and found one bolt head missing, the rest are tight and intact. The truck does have a vibration and I am unable to find it. What could cause the bolt heads to break off?
2001 f350 7.3 4x4 reg cab, no lift and stock tires.
Thank for your help.

That vibration you are chasing will definately break bolts.
Get the ride smooth again, even if it means having a whole new driveline built for your truck.
Stick or automatic?
The vibration that I have comes on at 50-55 mph and will stop if I let off the throttle. It will smooth out at 60 mph. It feel as if it is coming from the drivers side, but not the front end. Torque converter??

You can pin it down to driveline vs torque converter by shifting out of OD.
If the frequency of vibration remains the same, then it's driveline.
If it changes with engine rpm, then it's something forward of the tranny.
Kwik, I do not get the vibration with the od off. ( just ran out and ran the truck) Also noticed the weight on the drive shaft is rusted and does not look like a button as the front shaft weight.
Update: I placed the truck on stands and ran it through the gears. The vibration is coming from the trans and only in overdrive. Dropped the trans pan and found metal shavings on the magnet. The shavings ranged from very small up to shavings that you would get when drilling something. Looks as if I need a tranny.
Finances will dictate if I will rebuild myself (with help) or see what price my brother in law can get on a ford reman. I am leaning towards the reman, my local dealer wants $2100. Hope the BIL can get it at cost + 10% ??????
Until then my morning coffee will be shaken not stirred.
