Would oil thinned by unburned fuel cause 15 psi of oil pressure? would an oil analysis be more wise, I just didnt think of it I just kinda went with the doomsday scenario to replace my motor. so for those of you with oil problems in the past how many of you have used Amsoil, how many of you have had issues with MAJOR viscosity breakdown causing issues with the heui system, where can i get my oil analyzed?
I'm no expert, but am happy to share my experiences.
There are numerous testing labs... Blackstone Labs and Shcaeffers to name just two of them, both of which I have personal experience. I'm happier with Schaeffer's service, which is a little slower, does not offer TBN testing, but is also much cheaper and they offer excellent insights regarding your oil's performance. I tried OilGuard's service a couple of times, but was not happy with how they assume certain oil characteristics based on a few measured items, and they also don't tell the customer that some of their reported oil properties are calculated based on "average results" from other measured properties (unless you call them up and ask them to explain why some values don't always make sense in their report).
I've run the Amsoil DEO (synthetic 5w40), and did not get the results I was led to believe would be available. Even with my bypass oil fiultration system, the wear metals spiked up after 8K miles and ran higher at 13K than I've been getting with my Schaeffer 9000 5w40.
Yes, the HEUI system on our trucks can be vicous on oil viscosity, which is why I run mid-cycle and end-of-cycle OA's on every load of oil that hits my engine... just want to make sure I don't miss an unexpected wear problem. I'm getting about 15K miles between changes on my truck, and might be able to go longer, but am comfortable with where I am right now.
That said, I've never seen fuel in my oil, so I can't comment on that issue.
I,m no expert either so here's my experience with shear. After running Rotella 5w-40 syn since 15,000 to 97,000 then to Schaeffers 9000 5w-40 syn to 124,000, my first UOA after running the first load of Schaeffers, it showed my 40 weight oil sheared to a 30 weight. Without getting in to great detail, I was told to run a synthetic blend preferably Schaeffers 15-40, it holds up better with our oil systems in our trucks. Schaeffers test kit here from your local dealer.
so assuming that multi grade oils are multi grade, then consider a 15-40 even if it shears to a 30 wt it should hold enoughviscosity to maintain pressures. so then can i accurately assume that my lpop is bad?
