Which transmission?
1987 F250, 351 engine, 4 x 4 wheel drive, automatic trans. Started leaking transmission fluid when it gets hot, Which transmissions were used in this model truck?

If your trans is a 3 speed then it is a C6, if a four speed (3 with O/D) then it is an E4OD.
If you look at the door plate you can get the trans code or count the number of bolts on the trans pan and then use the transmission info here.
On the top line of this forum page click on Tech Info and you will then be able to identify the trans by either of the methods above.
