Dual tanks, been sitting for a while. Started and ran for a few minutes then died. Figured rear tank was out of gas (gauge doesn't work). Switched to other tank, won't start. Put gas in rear tank but still won't start. Fuel has really bad smell. Can't hear fuel pump(s)! Any suggestions?
Ground pin #6 of the EEC Self-Test connector an turn on the key and see if the frame mounted fuel pump and the selected in tank fuel pump run.
The EEC Self-Test connector is by your battery.
Thanks. Before I got your reply I had the wife help! Crawled under and had her turn the key (hearing isn"t great). Anyway, heard nothing. Switched tank selector to front and got a definite buzz/whirr. Added some good gas to front tank and it started. Very strong BAD FUEL odor! I'm guessing the rear in-tank pump is shot?
I'm still checking on things. What's puzzling to me is it started and was running (rear tank) and just died like it ran out of fuel. It's been a lawn ornament for 2 plus years except we moved it every couple of weeks in grass cutting season. Red squirrels thought the engine compartment was a good place to hide nuts, so it could have some chewed wires etc.
