guys ive found a 9 inch a guy has says it came out of either a late 70,s lincoln or early 80,s it has disc brakes and the emercency cables still there uncut ,i need a rear end to narrow up for my 58 f-100 or my 72 maverick would this be agreat buy for 100.00 buck complete or should i find different rear end with drums
i just thought it would be nice to have disc brakes all the way aroun don my 58
sounds like a versailles rear. rebuild parts can get pricey.
$100 sounds extremely fair though, if the guts are good.
double check, though, to verify that it isn't the odd ball 9-3/8" rear.
it definitely isnt what you want. then again, did they put discs on 9-3/8's???

They were the hot ticket years ago but there's a lot of other options around nowadays. 100 bones isn't a bad price but it might not be that cheap in the end.....
There are 2 different "Lincoln" 9" rearends. One has the 5 on 4.5 bolt paterns and was in the Versailles (Granada based Lincoln). The other was a 5 on 5" bolt pattern and was in the full sized Lincolns and some Merc wagons. Check the bolt pattern.
The 9-3/8 isn't a big deal. Same basic carrier, we put 9" gears in them all the time on spools. They are kind of odd and you do have to pay attention when changing gears (I think it's a bearing deal that is different and you have to change the carrier but the housing is the same if I remember right) but they are usable.
so if the rear end is the full size lincoln it will have the 5x5 pattern? and talking about the 9 3/8 if it is a 9 3/8th u r saying i can just replace the whole chunk out for a 9 inch carrier
How pricey r the rotors??..lol
my $0.02, it's been all over the news that explorer's were the most junked vehicle under the cash for clunkers. I anticipate the sudden salvage supply to significantly offset the demand w/ lower prices. off roaders, rodders, grandma's, grandma's dog's have all been on the prowl for explorer 8.8 disc rears from model years 97-01. It's what I plan to do if I don't find the perfect Jaguar deal first.

I've mentioned this before either here or on another forum, but the Explorer 8.8's are the hot ticket. They should be scarfed up and saved. However, I've also read about the C4C program, and it prevents any yard from selling drivetrain parts. But there seems to be some confusion in this.
As to the Lincoln 9". Two things: If I had a spare $100 I'd get it just to have, or for trading material down the road. And if the car is going to the crusher anyway, it's worth saving something that is rare (and still desired) these days.
