Hypertech

just changed my hypertech last night to premium fuel setting. is this safe to run in this mode without causing long term engine problems or am i just wasting my money on the extra cost of fuel? should i see a change in mpg's, i don't drive hard.

The engine is going to maintain a 14.7:1 air/fuel ratio, except for when it's in open loop. Unless hypertech has changed, you should only get into open loop under WOT. You may notice a little better fuel mileage (say 1/2-1 mpg) and a little more power off the line. The Transmission will not be changed with the tune, so RPMs will remain constant.

thks, but i just switched back to reg fuel. pulled into wawa to fuel up and noticed that prem was .26 cents more. i did delete trans firmness as i was running in the past and now it seems to be a lost more responsive. another member in the past advised that trans firmness would cause premature wear on the trans pump or something like that, i'm sure he knows what he's talking about cause if i did i wouldn't be asking...however, hypertech tune w/ reg fuel and normal trans setting does seem to operate much better.

Using a tuner to boost shift firmness basically makes the pump work harder because it's trying to produce higher pressures. Plus there is a thought about the fluid not lubricating properly. I ran my truck on Race Firmness for a year or so before doing a valve body mod, and it hasn't seemed to harm it.

That's not too bad for high test, it's now 31 cents higher locally for me. I can't justify the extra cost per week for the 1/2mpg gain, and I'm babying it trying to keep my average in the 12s.
