There are a number of places to install a small amp (Kicker 200.4) in my 04 Screw, but where is best?
Under a seat?
On the back wall behind the bench seat? Screw or bolt to back wall (how?); cut carpet or don't cut carpet; mount to mdf or not?
I am more than capable of the DIY install, just wonder how most others were done. If there is a good thread here already, please post the link.
DOUBLEDEE-- You have a GREAT pictoral of your tear down and install that I will be using. But I can't tell from the pics how and why you installed your amp the way you did. Got some tips? Thanks again.
Amps need some air space and flow, class D produces the least heat for the work, but it still gets pretty warm. Then think about the heat sink on the amp, you want the heat to be carried away from the amp, mounting it upside down or so the fins don't get air passing over will not let it cool as well as it could.
I believe it is preferable to isolate the body of the amp from the chassis. On some amps, the RCA ground is connected to the body and on some others, they use a resistor. Making it ground at only one spot would help make diagnosing noise a little easier. I don't think it's terribly critical though. Bolting the amp to a piece of MDF then securing the MDF to a couple of factory bolts would make the job and simple, or you can build a box for the amp or install the on a custom built box.
Reax, I like the idea of using existing factory bolts to mount the mdf. BTW- anyone interested in browsing what this guy posted, below is the link. This guy did me and a lot of DIY'ers a huge service.
