I was wanting to know what people are doing about the black plastic under the window when it starts to fade. I was thinking about going to the junk yard but I figured they would be faded to. I could mask them off and paint them but the part that goes up the back of the back doors is not faded. Has anyone had this problem. Also I saw somewhere people were talking about removing the trim panels on both sides. Can this be done without haveing to paint. Thanks in advance for any help.
This topic has been discussed several times in the past on this site. The consensus is, you can clean the trim really good then rub in some pure silicone to bring back luster and shine, or I've heard that black Turtle Wax is similar. Some have mentioned painting, but I'm not convinced this would loog good. Or you can replace the pieces with original style or go with the chrome type on Navigators...your choice.
Mine were faded terribly! Almost to the color grey! I used L&S 501 polish and a random orbital buffer to bring them back to like new! This is the best polish that I have ever seen. You can use it on glass, rubber, and nonporus plastic such as bug shields. It is static free, and leaves a finish on paint that is silky smoothe! I found mine at a car show, but if you E-mail me i will give you a 1-800 number to call. They also have a website I think it's www.Insauto.com.
