fast help please

I just rebuilt the transmission in my '99 explorer... The computer and transmission designs were the same for those two years but '98 was the 1st year for this combo. What engine and transmission does your friend have in it now? I think the computers won't work between those years and I know if he has the 5R55E in the truck currently, it definitely won't work. Also, the 5R55R is different between the SOHC and OHV engine and this may be the case for the 4 speed as well but I don't know that one.
