I have a 97 f150 5 spd and my parking brake doesnt work. When i push it down it move maybe a 1/4 inch if that and its super tight. But that wont hold the truck from moving. It used to work fine and all of a sudden it stoped. So to try to correct the problem new rear shoes and hard wear, pedal assembly, and cables any idea what could cause this??
I have the same problem except I push mine to the floor and nothing happens. I replaced the emergency brake hardware once because it fell apart inside my rotor and it didn't work after that. then i recently checked and cleaned all the rear brake parts due to having to change the rear axle seals and the thing still doesn't work. I tried adjusting but this works to no avail. I have given up on the problem.
I would check your hardware at the back to see if everything is intact. then check the cable running to the length of the truck to see if it has corroded away or is caught on something causing it to not move.
My truck has an auto tranny so it's not that big of a deal for me but i see your concern since you have a manual trans.
Yea i have given up myself i have checked everything numerous times and still nothing i just carry a wheel chock around with me haha but i was just seeing if maybe someone happened to find some other issue that could cause it
thanks
Well I CAN'T give up because I need them working for a safety check
When I took the rotors off, I found the "scissor" type actuators had seized completely solid. I had to apply heat to get them separated. Now it appears they come apart when reassembled on the backing plate. They work maybe once, then separate causing a malfunction.
It's like cutting paper with scissors that keep fall apart at the swivel pin.
Maybe I don't fully understand the design. What holds the two pieces together? Do I need to buy new ones or can I fab something up to hold the old ones together.
