Trans Swap
I hope this is the right section to post this...... but, I have an 02 crew cab f150 with a 5.4 auto 4x4. it is stock but i miss my old 99 with the 5speed tranny. What would be involved in swapping out the auto for the manual trans out of another F150? i assume bellhousings are different from the v6 trucks and i do recall seeing a 4.6 truck with a manual. do they use the same transfer cases? electronics? obviously have to get pedal assmebley from donor truck. what else do i need to know? who has done this? thanks in advance!!

You would need to use a trans out of a 4.6L truck. The flywheel you would need to get would be an 8 bolt flywheel off of a windsor 4.6, the romeo engines use a 6 bolt flywheel. You would also need to get the computer from the doner truck and I believe it would have to be the same 4.4 shift system as your which I am guessing is an electronic shift. You would have to cut a hole in the floor where the shifter goes and then figure out what to do with the auto shift lever and dash gear selector on your truck. I am not sure if the drive shafts from the auto truck and the manual truck are the same so hopefully someone else can chime in on that. There may be other thing you need to do but that is all I can think of.
