can someone help me???

I have a 1979 F-250 with a 351M 2150 Carb(original)

Problem is I am 3 hours from where my truck is and can't get a rebuilt kit without the tag number I am told.......Is this true and how can I get around this?

The trouble is, for any given year/model/engine, there are still a few different carburetor setups and calibrations that would have been manufactured. You may be able to get something close by just having your truck's information, but to get an exactly matched rebuild kit, you ultimately need to have the tag numbers to have the kit cross referenced. The risk here is that if you get a kit that you think is close and you open it up, try it out, and it doesn't work, you can't return it. Pretty cut and dry here.
