hi! im lookin at a truck to replace my POS 93. its an 80 something, i know that. but im not sure what year it is.so my first question is, is there a way to identify the year by something on the front of the truck?
another question is, how hard is it to convert a truck to 4wd?
80 and 81 should have a grille without the Ford oval, and should have FORD lettering across the face of the hood like on the 70s trucks.
82-86 should have the Ford oval on the grille, and no lettering on the hood.
But that's not really an accurate way to tell the year of the truck, since it's entirely possible that someone could've swapped out the hood and/or grille for a different year.
As far as converting to 4WD, I'll have to leave that question to someone familiar with conversions like that. I don't know enough about it to comment.
As far as convertoring to 4wd you will need a front axle, springs,T-case, Transmission, Front and rear D-shafts. and a couple of other things if it is s F250 or 350
And just an FYI the rear frames on the cab-n-chassis' are differnt than a pick up. The frame is narrower and so are the springs(2.5 as opposed to 3").But from the rear cab mount forward they are the same as a pickup

now to find the knock.......
thanks all!!
O you can put a bed on. I had an 88 w a 159" wheel base that i put a bed on and added 2'2" to. It was 10'2" total. Pretty sweet putting 2 4wd 4wheelers in and closin the tailgate
And for the knock, if it is a 351/400M they have bad bearings

the extended bed was another option. i saw someone do that with a dodge and they could fit a chopper in the back with the tailgate shut.
it would be cool. i could have a toolbox in the bed and i would still have 8 feet.
