nut swap

I've got a set of 16.5" alumn rims for my 79. The use the lug nut w/the flat washer instead of the acorn design, works well but the problem I have now is with the sterling axle in the rear I can't find any flat washer nuts to work with the 9/16 studs (that will still fit in the rims hole). Any one have any advice/experience with taking a varibit or similiar and adding a angle to the rims to accept a acorn style nut??? Thanks

Do you know that the ID of the hole in the wheel is? There are two sizes, one is .800' which is typical for duallies, and then there is the .740" which should fit right inside of the hole for your wheel. These have a thinner wall than the 1/2" lug nuts, but still offer enough clamping force to be used.
Ive used these with old tubine style wheels and though tight, and a pain to install they did work.
Gorilla or even Mac guard makes them, they are called "mag seats":

I used these mag style lugs on my 90 f250 from advance-part number 611-256.1

they were 2 dolla each....for 9/16 studs....
