Snake
I tend to be cautious around anything with long sharp teeth lol...My phobia is bees, wasps, yellowjackets - anything with yellow & black stripes on it - had bad experiences with them in childhood... I'm OK with spiders, though, which is my wife's phobia so we have an arrangement set up to where she takes care of the yellow/black flying demons for me and I take care of the spiders for her... Although, lately, I've been taking care of the hornets myself since they insist on making nests in/around my Fury...
A co-worker of mine has a fear of balloons (globophobia) - first time I'd even heard of that fear - she can't stand to be anywhere near them - you should hear what she does when one pops!
The parking lot critters are scarlet snakes. Usually on found in Floyd County. But they have shown up here. So authorities are having fun with that one.
We found a nest of Timber rattlers behind motel. JOY JOY JOY! They had made a home in the rocky ledges directly behind the motel. They were just to the right of the picture I am reposting. It seems they like rocky, discreet areas and the rear of motel provided just that. It is quiet with no traffic, people etc. One of the scouts actually found 5 on the actual mountain itself. but they can stay the ones under my windows may not so they are relocated to nearby forest land. They believe the young ones got into apartment through window that does not have screen that I left open for cats as there is a slither mark in mud under window in drainage channel and some mud venturing up wall.
My apartment has been cleared as well as the entire motel. We shot concrete into small cave openings in rocks so now there will be no more places for anything to hide in this vicinity. There have never been this many snakes near motel in its 62 year history nor has there ever been any in the motel itself.
They feel the scarletts were brought in under tenants boyfriends van. He just bought conversion van from a family in Floyd county and scarletts have been found in the parking area near where he parks. It is a theory.
I dont care how people love snakes or feel they are so great and wonderful. I am not one to let them live. Just my personal feeling. Ill take a snake out in a heartbeat. Big little whatever there will be no snake survive should I find it.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
My office critter was identified as a bull snake.
The final snake count from a crew of twenty amazing brave big balled guy and one brass balled female were 5 TR's, 6 bulls and 8 scarlets. They are finding a lot on the mountain. only one more month only one more month.... Now they are trying to figure out why the multi species were in immediate same zone.
If I found a centipede I would kill it without hesitation. This looking right out bathroom window.
want to know some snake FYI? To get rid of snakes DO NOT use moth ***** or steel wool. Why? Both will actually cause more aggression. The gas emitted from the moth ***** confuses them and sets off their "heat" sensors. The lose their way in a sense which miffs em off. The steel wool hurts and causes erratic stimuli causes their anger to rise. They said moth ***** are the worst. You will have an even more pissed of reptile. Jack Monroe the leader of this group stated that it is like the incredible hulk.
As far as the snakes... OK... a bull snake sounds about right. Actually they are really cool. They will just hiss and vibrate their tails to sound tough at times, but I'd own one in a minute (and have). They sure do eat a lot of mice though, which is good in the wild, but not for my pocket book. Anyway... I agree ... you sure have been getting your share of the critters. And you must have some pretty nice accommodations for them to want to find a winter home there. Maybe you should invest in some King snakes. They eat other snakes, including the Timbers. The Scarlets eat snakes too, but they'd have to be small since Scarlets don't get very big. Oh, and baby rattlers can be more dangerous than grown ones for two reasons ... they are small and know it and are extra quick to strike to save their butts ... and when they do they give full doses of venom for they aren't very good in regulating the amount yet.
When I first moved here I had several centipede's that had taken up residency. It was my first experience with them and they really freaked me out the way they move. And if you cut one in half both ends keep on running. The one I mentioned on the forum was HUGE. Like about 6 or 8 inches long and an inch wide. If you feel about snakes like I feel about centipede's..... then I understand why you freaked out. The peeing the pants thing though ... well, I lucked out there. I was sitting on the toilet when one fell from the ceiling and landed on my head. So my pants were safely around my ankles when I expressed my fear.
I'm wondering why FTE isn't sending me emails for this thread and yet I get them for other threads I'm watching.
Well, there was a cottonmouth inside. Scared the absolute hell out of me as it dropped out and ran for the water. I'm glad I didn't get bitten a half mile from the house, but I sure as heck don't pick up anything in the field anymore without kicking it first, lol.
