88 Wont Start
ok so when i turn the key it will not start...its in park and idk what the problem is...i can jump it from the solenoid with a pair of pliers but its getting old...i was thinking that the solenoid is bad b.c. when i ark it, it starts with no problem, so its not the starter...but wat i was thinkin if it wasnt making a connection inside the solenoid than that could be my problem, but i can jump it from the solenoid...i know its not the linkage cuz its in park and if it was in drive the jump from the solenoid wont work...can someone help me??? the fuel pumps and everything is good but when i turn the key the engine doesnt even try to crank, but when i jump it from the solenoid it cranks right up...any suggestions???

So, to bypass the ignition circuit I am going to assume you are jumping the two larger terminals on the start solenoid. To test the solenoid, jump between the larger terminal that is connected directly to the battery and the smaller terminal with the RED/LT.BLUE wire running to it. If you jump those two terminals and the truck still starts, the solenoid is fine. If not, the solenoid should be replaced. DO NOT jump to the other small terminal (BLACK wire) on the solenoid. This will cause a dead short and a serious arc flash.
If, by some chance the truck DOES start, the problem lies further up the line either in the wiring between the ignition switch and the solenoid or the ignition switch itself is bad.
