hey guys
i did an oil change yesterday and i have gas in the oil. i called 3 of my local parts stores and they tell me that there is 1 thats no power steering-44$ and one with power steering-110$ (canadian)
is the 1 with power steering smaller?
i havent seen anything about it when i searched
also im not sure but i think the 302 in my truck is from a mustang would that make a difference when getting parts? i havent found the casting #s but the guy i bought it from said it has 1990 f-150 efi block and heads
intake and carb from a pre 86 mustang.
he works at the ford plant in oakville.
any thoughts?
thanks
I'm a little confused (nothing new) but regardless of the heads, block, and intake, if it's carbed I would think it would just use a regular ole $20 mechanical pump. If it has a mechanical pump, that bolts to the timing cover.
But I guess maybe you're using the newer the timing cover that doesn't have the hole for the mechanical pump, so you must be using an electric pump? Well I guess I didn't help much.
The casting numbers you can see by looking at the block above the starter.
just checked the plugs some dark tan some black
what do you guys suggest carb first then fuelpump? i noticed that im most likely will have to move the whole steering pump to get fuelpump out. i can reach the bolts but dont think there will be clearence to pull it out. im suprized the manual makes no reference to having to do this or that there are 2 possible matches depending on the power steering.
its manual bolts to timming cover....i think it is
If it has a mechanical pump then yes you can get it out with the power steering pump in place. You just have to use extensions on the ratchet to get to the bolts.
I have a 302 in my truck and I've replaced the fuel pump with the power steering pump in place. So yes you can do it.
EDIT: When you say "box" are you talking about the steering pump's reservoir?
EDIT #2: The short block in my truck is from an 83 Grand Marquis with my 77 timing cover, heads, intake, and all accessories.
just wanted to say thanks i just finnished and it started up right away. and i didnt have to move anything. next im going to do the oil and plugs then i guess ill wait and see if the oil still smells. if it does ill move on to the carb.
what should i gap my plugs to?
