I have a 1978 F150 4x4 with i believe the original front axle. I do not know which one it is. How can i tell what it is with no tag? Any help would be appriciated.

Should be Dana 44. All half tons and Bronco's in 78 came with them.

I admittedly don't know as much as some here, but unless it was changed by a PO, It is likely a dana 44 with 3.50 gears.

Thanks

You guys are great. Thanks alot. I was leaning toward the Dana 44 but i wanted to be sure before buying the parts. Also, one more thing. Does anyone have any idea why my axle U joints are pressed together, instead of the usual interchangable U joint?

Are you asking about your axle u-joints? They are not pressed together, they simply do not have external c-clips. Instead they have internal c-clips. Look to the inside, or back side of the u-joint cap, on the under side of the u joint itself, and you will find some c-clips that have to be removed in order to take the caps off.
Then you can press them out with a u-joint press like normal.
