Well, here's what I got. When switching to 4wd I got 22" vacuum for 45 60 seconds...wheels locked as vacuum starts to climb. Then switched to 2wd and got 6" for 20-30 seconds. The key is hubs don't unlock until the end of the 6" vacuum cycle. This because of the way the springs latch and un-latch in the hub. I guess my problem was not waiting long enough for the 6" cycle to finish before screwing with the hubs. I wasn't waiting a minute or so before I'd be at the hubs switching between lock and auto or turning the drive shaft to free them up. They seem to be okay, thanks for everyones help. John

essentially it works like the clicker in a bic pen except i nstead of your finger it uses a vaccuum pulse. first pulse locks it, then vac bleeds off next one unlocks it. or opposite depending whether you started locked or unlocked. as long as vac bleeds off enough to release the clicker the next pulse will move the cycle ahead

Sometimes I have to flip the switch a couple time over a period of 5 minutes+- to get it to disengage but it's no big deal.
