Speedometer Problem...

Speedometer Problem...
88 F-250 I6-FI 5spd 4x4
OK so I got nipped by the Po-Po's this weekend and the problem was speeding! My speedometer is bouncing from 40mph-65mph... It was only bouncing about 4-6 mph before I got sideswiped by another truck. So I kinda knew before how fast I was going. I don't know if getting hit caused this malfunction but I'd like to fix it. Also it is only the speedometer; the Tach doe NOT bounce. Does someone know what is wrong and how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
