!@#$&^! CA Emissions Testing

At least it looks like they won't be putting my truck on the rollers next year! I'm sure they won't be training the technicians that we "older" Fords redline at 3400RPM...

Soooo I am about to put in my 4-inch turbo back exhaust next week, I am thinking about putting v-bands on my CAT and having the straight pipe with the same for an easy swap out. What do you all think?

So this looks like it affects 1998 and newer, correct?

Yep. That's correct. Has anyone heard how often smog testing will be required? Here in Siskiyou County we only have to smog our vehicles once then they're good to go until the next change of ownership.

No 6yr grace period like gas, every other year. Based on VIN#, Odds on one year, Evens on the other. Not sure yet who will get it first.

Well it looks like I will be exempt from this. It also means there will not be a newer truck in my future.

In Lake Co. they don`t smog period. Thought about renting an apt up there to get an address (2 hrs. away) just in case I have problems. I could write off as a business expense either way

Evens will start next year (sync'ing up with the even/odd scheme for cars). Mine's up in Jan 2010 so I'll be the guinea pig for this...

Just remember that only the 2 year smog tests are exempt, you would still have to pass smog if you sell the truck.

It's still nice to not have to fuss with smog every other year though! That's the way I'm set up for all my vehicles!

My rig is pretty much bone stock. The only time I get any smoke is a light mist on a cold day getting on the freeway or towing heavy. I'm sure my emissions are low (it's only a visual smoke test anyway). My only concern is going to be the visual inspection. I have a 6637 filter (obviously no CARB certification on that baby!) and no cat. The under hood sticker clearly states CA emissions / NO CAT on it. Hopefully they take that for what it is.

It's also a good excuse to finally chase my P1670 code that keeps throwing my SES light. Hopefully it's only a bad connection between my IDM and UVCH. If not, my wife is not going to be happy how such a small box (IDM) can cost so much!

Brian-

Did you ever chase down the P1670 code? My friend has a 2000 7.3 and he never had the check engine light. He dropped it off at the smog place and the guy said it failed because it threw that code...

Andy, Did your pal have it tuned or programmed? If he did did he return to stock for a few days before bringing it in as to allow everything to re-set?

No tuner. Stock truck. That's why it's weird. 160,000 miles on it.
