my friend has a 2004 F 150 with the 5.4 liter triton which i believe needs a fuel filter replacement.. where is this filter located and is it hard to change?
I remember my 2000 f 150 it was on the frame rail under the drivers seat
Don't need to do that, just let it sit for awhile and change it. You will get a little fuel but it wont be pressurized.
I agree that you don't need to do that. Just unnecessary steps. I changed my fuel filter today on my 2001 5.4 superduty. I had to start the truck and pulled it up on ramps to make more room to get under it and less than 5 minutes later I was under it disconnecting the fuel lines and maybe an ounce or less of gas came out of the lines. A simple two minute job (without unplugging the fuel pump).

The process in the link I provide has you simply tripping the "impact" fuel cut off switch on the truck which cause the fuel pump to shut off. The process takes about 10 minutes soup to nutz done!
I couldn't get the fuel line on the engine side disconnected from the filter to save my life. Is there a trick to it? I pushed the coupler in and inserted the tool, but the coupler would not budge...
I never ran the gas out ,until I replaced a filter on my friends truck [and like the perfect storm everything lined up just right] and about 1 ounce of gas shot straight into my eye. It feels like battery acid for about 5 mins. then it just burns like hell for about 30 mins. This a high pressure fuel system it will retain some pressure even when engine is not running. But no big deal WE ALL HAVE TWO EYES
I let mine sit overnight, no pressure at all. I might had an ounce of fuel drip from the lines after I removed the filter. I used the small grey insert tool from advance auto parts to release the line connectors
I have always changed mine with out leting the truck run out of fuel or other things, I just pull it in the shop and change it.
Have never had any problems, just a very small amount of fuel drips down.
just changed my friends on his 05 with 60Kmiles I'd be willing to bet original very easy with the tool. he had been having CEL with WOT prior to replacing filter and after i replaced it he said it was like a new truck. does anyone know what ford recommends on miles to replace I've always head once a year?
according to the ford fleet maintenance schedule it says every 30k miles. When i changed mine it was like night and day. Had some brown gas come out when i turned it upside down.
