conversion question...Help!!

Ok,here goes.My son has a 1993 F-150 4x4,302efi,auto-od,and otherwise stock. What we are considering, is replacing the original 302 with a carberated 1981 302(because we have one onhand) and keeping the electronic od trans. Can that be done, and if so,what is needed (changes)? His thought was also to add long-tube headers ,upgrade to 32" tires, and possible gear ratio change. Any help would be appreciated.

Why not keep it FI and use the 81 block and heads?
Use the distributor, intakes and sensors from the 1993.

what he said is a good idea. And also what you and your son are thinking about will not work any way. There plenty of sensors that the engine has that with out the computer seeing they are there it comes into failure mode. The failure mode shifts your transmission all stupid. My TPS went out(which you would have to take off to do what you are talking about doing.) and my transmission started shifting all stupid.

Not a good idea since the EFI computer runs the trans too. Why not save yourself some work and just add longtube headers and maybe a cam to the EFI motor? It will run just fine and deliver lots more power with an EFI friendly cam.
