I was wondering if anyone could tell me what these markings mean from the crankshaft gear.
EL 2DEG 3121B R ()
The engine is a rebuilt engine that was put in my 1978 Ford F150. 351M with Holley intake and Holley carb. I was wondering which of the marks would line up with the dot on the cam gear for correct timing. I had absolutely no compression so now I'm in the process of trying to track down why. Maybe the wrong length pushrod, wrong rocker arms.... How do I know what cam, pushrod, rockers, combinations will make the engine functional?
The gear should have a mark in line with a tooth. Others will be offset one way or the other. That one is straight up. Is it a new bigger cam? New pushrods? New rockers? When you say no compression do you mean you did a compression test on all cylinders and have no compression?
Need a little more info and someone will hopefully set you on your way.
I did a compression test on all the cylinders and all read 0. I used a tester that works because I tried it on my daily driver and it read fine. I made sure the distributor wasn't out 180 degrees. At this point the carb, intake, and heads are off of the engine. Looking at the heads everything looks fine. I water tested the heads and positively no leaks. All the gaskets looked fine during disassembly. I am wondering how to check and make sure all the right parts were used for example the right length pushrods, the right rocker arms.... The engine that was put in the truck was a 351m shortblock from a company that builds engines and the heads were rebuilt by my uncle and look to be in great condition. The mark that lines up with the tooth on the crankshaft gear IS lined up with the dot on the camshaft timing gear. I have no idea what might be the problem. Thank you for any thoughts
