Ok here is my problem b4 i put the new carb on my truck you couldnt rev it up at all or hardly crank it up and if you got it crunk up you could never even move it cause it would just die when you tried to give it gas and move it .. Well after i put the new carb on the truck it fired right up . however when you hit the gas there is something wrong still you can tell .. now i was actually able to put it in drive and move it down the rd some .. however you could hear the truck tryn to backfire some ... also when you got on the highway it did not feel right at all it had no power at all struggled to get up to speed .. please help me if you can i picked up a new distributor tonight and im going to put it on my truck tomorrow i sure hope this fixes it please help guys thanks alot yall.
it doesnt have the cat on it ... its possible for the vac leak... i put the distributor on it today and you can tell the truck runs better but he timmin is still off i think monday im gonna get my buddy to help me set the timing .. when i post a report . and when i get the timming set im going to check for a vac leak and go from there as well
K the trucks timming is correct... im still gonna check for a vac leak however nowmaly a motor will not idle verry good with a vac leak .. my truck fires right up .. and idles perfect i mean excelent .. get it on the highway doesnt hardly have power at all you have to drag it threw first gear drag it thew second gear to go anywhere ... and wont hardly run if shift it to third gear .... it seems like my truck is ok when its not under a load but when out it under a load it just dont work properly could this be a bad ignition module ???? ... would my truck run this good at idle if it had a small crack in the head gasket ???
Please help .... I Have put a new ignition module, Distributor, Distributor cap and button, new Carb, new fuel pump , New Coil, new plugs and plug wires Fuel filter, i have done all of this the timming is set properly and there are no vacuum leaks at all on my truck it runs great when just sittin still.. when you put it in R and give it gas that carb kinda sputters just a lil bit .. however when you get on the hwy you have to floor the truck in string out first and 2nd gear to get it to do anything it feels powerless you can tell somethin is wrong and if you put it in 3rd it runs terrible and you can put your foot on the floor and it wont do nothin but run bad no exceleration... please help yall
Here is the problem... You changed to many things at once. That is a big NONO!
That being said, it is a fuel, or ignition problem, so I will start simple. ARe your plugs gapped correct?
When you say you time it... I am assumeing your doing it at an idle. Try this... With the car running (ofcourse) put your timing light, on the marks, see where you have it set, and familurize your self with the grid... (where is it advancing, and retarding) now that you have an idea, raise the idle to about 1500 rpms, it doesnt have to be exact. You should see your timing marks advance... Do They? That will also tell you if you are set BTC not ATC. I am starting simple, but dont interpuit this as me calling your stupid. I dont know mow mechanical you are, and it is hard to trouble shoot this way...
If they are not advanceing, there is your problem. It kind of sounds like its not adnacing, but that is assuming your fuel delivery is good. Since it is able to supply fuel at freeway speeds, and with it floored threw the gears, I am leaning toward a timeing issue. If it where fuel, it would fall off the longer it is floored.
Sounds like a possable timing problem to me to , so X2 on checking to make sure your advance is working . I would also check the timing chain , Turn the motor over by hand at the crank till its at TDC on the comp stroke , then remove dist cap & see if the rotor is pointing at #1, it should be close . Then turn the crank back the other way & see how far you have to turn it to get the rotor to move , that will tell how much slack you have in the chain.... Lew
