is there a way to rig up the replace air filter indicater thats on the stock air box in the tube somewhere with the 6637 filter? did you guys just leave it out or put it on in a different location. i'm asking cause ill be doing this mod and would like to keep it on somewhere.
I think most of us just leave it out. The 6637 is so big the filter would have to be really clogged before it would indicate anything. I've seen a few photos how some do it and maybe they will chime in here with a photo.
You would probable have to drill a whole somewhere on your intake tube after the filter and then put it on and make sure it is sealed really well, but like Hussler said, most just leave it off since you can visually see your filter being clogged way before that little filter minder would tell ya.
here is a 6637 off of a ranch truck I changed this morning, I drovee the truck 90 miles to my shop had full power and no black smoke. they would have kept running this filter a lot longer. this truck sees almost only dirt and back country roads. the dirt is what came out tapping it on the floor about 10 times,
this is after I threw it out of the truck and kicked it out of the way a few times.
I will see if my scales can weigh it and compare it to a new one.
I chang mine about 1 time a year, about 30,000 to 40,000 miles and cant tell any performance change with the new one.
p.s. I live in the desert in Arizona so we get a lot of dust
ok the new 6637 weighs 2 lbs 8.6 oz.
that dirty one weighed 2 lbs 14.4 oz
5.8 oz of dirt still in it! I probable knocked half that much out just handling it.
will the wix 46637 air filter the same thing? i saw some on ebay for 32 bucks + shipping.
I think those are the same thing.
I change mine when the turbo whistle starts to muffle, unless I can clean it some. We get lots of dust here in the southwest but I don't drive it much so my 6637 lasts a while. Never seen a speck or trace of dirt past the filter.
I work for the city and picked mine up at NAPA. I called them and they told me $52. When I showed up in my city vehilce they gave it to me for $20. I guess because they have a contract with the city so they gave it to me for the city price. They are marking them up big time!
