Paypal experience?

Seems like a safe way to sell stuff, but the Criagslist site/FAQ says "only if you want to risk losing your money..."

Any first hand users?

Thanks.

Been using them for years and never any problem. Have had to file two claims and got my money back both times.

The folks that have problems with it, are the ones that shouldn't be using the internet in the first place.

same here using it for years.

no main problems apart from paypal twice holding money owed to me , to reduce money laundering they told me , got it in the end , but i let out my holiday property in the UK and Florida and paypal works fine for the last minute bookings.

only thing i have heard of (not happened to me) but the buyer can demand his/her money back up until 60 days i believe. Paypal can just take the money from your account till the issue is resolved. but its normally like Texas Outlaw said, thats the people who should not be using paypal anyway.

just as safe as cash i reckon ,
for example how many fraudlent banknotes are circulating around at the moment ?

I've used PP for years as well, never a problem, both buying and selling. It's safer that taking checks, even with a waiting period, and probably safer that face to face transactions with large amounts of cash.

PP is owned by eBay, and Craigslist and eBay are always bickering. That's probably the main reason for that comment in the FAQ.

i have only had one problem with paypal, and that was because someone refused to ship an item i bought on ebay.
paypal said sorry, you only have 45 days to contest a purchase. luckily, i only pay with a credit card, so the credit card company stepped up to the plate and got my money back for me.

I've been using paypal for a LONG time and no major problems to speak of, BUT I have heard more than a few instances of people who sold something to someone, shipped it, and then the buyer filed a dispute...paypal took their money, and that was the end of story. They were out the money and the item.

Supposedly as long as you have a tracking number that shows it was delivered to the buyer, you're in the clear, but I don't know.

I have had to file a few disputes myself on items that were misrepresented or whatever, but I had good reason for that.

Never had a problem with any transactions, HOWEVER, the credit card I had on the Paypal account became compromised. This card was only used with Paypal.

Someone opened an aol account and ran up over $1,000 in charges in short order. I caught it and after conversations with the card issuer and aol, got everything straightened out. I closed out my Paypal account and had card account number changed. Just an FYI.

No problems other then paypal setting their own exchange rates. When the Canadian dollar was $1.10 american I was still paying up with using paypal.

I have used it for awhile.

I don't like the setup they having going on now where if you sell things you have to ship the item and when it shows up "delivered" on UPS/FED EX/USPS website then you can get your money. I know its for a better experience but I like to have the money into or at least transferring into my checking account before I ship the item. I just don't feel like it's safe in my PP account. I feel like the buyer could easily file an unpaid item claim and I would lose out on my money.

Another thing about the new setup is they have problems communicating with UPS/FED EX...etc

Example:

I sold my phone on ebay a few weeks ago. I then shipped it and I kept checking the status of it and it kept showing up delivered and they still wouldn't release my money. I had to email customer service about it.

My brother mentioned that awhile back but I have yet to have that happen to me.

Granted I haven't sold anything on ebay in awhile, but the last time he mentioned it, I had sold something on ebay (and been paid for it) just before he told me that.

Maybe because I've had an account with them for 10 years? I dunno.

Just got an account in the last 6 months and it has been trouble free. I'm surprised at how many people actually use it.
