Around here you will pretty much only hear 3 names tony wild, power hungry performance , and dp tuner, they are all custom made chips that blow anything you can buy off the shelf outta the water, and cost about the same as one off the shelf.
I have the edge evo on my truck and it's been good to me, but I've heard of horror stories of them messing up the PCM on some trucks and some won't run afterwards, and requires the PCM to reprogrammed. The Edge only offers 3 power settings, whereas some of the others offer more settings to fit a bigger variety of needs. I've had good luck with my Edge, but if I were to do it again with what I know now I would go with Tony Wildman or DP. They have more to offer and custom tunes can be had with them to better fit your truck and any mods you might have done or plan to such as bigger injectors.
Edge is noting more than a paper weight compared to the others mentioned above. Have them both. Willl throw the edge away unles I can find someone to give me ten bucks for it. Thats about 9 bucks too much.
Hey, scatgo, did you know that we can put custom tunes in your Evo?
No. Sounds like a good idea but I would like something that I can switch power settings on with the flick of a switch. What would it cost to put custom tunes into a evo?
I have an old hypermax programmer in my truck. Helps shifting and a little more but seen this and was wondering if you can do anything more with it? Maybe a stupid ? but thought I'd ask. How much if you can or is it where I just as well buy a new chip for the cost? Thanks
I have the Edge Evolution & use it on my ’96 F250 7.3 PS. I’ve had no problems ( just follow the directions to the letter) & even the lowest setting – Tow – significantly raises performance compared to stock. And it stores your stock PCM setting as well. You’ll want to consider exactly what you expect from a programmer or aftermarket chip, as well as the condition of your motor, mileage, transmission condition and any significant aftermarket cooling or performance parts you’ve added. If you stick a screaming hot chip or program in a 1997 vehicle, chances are you won’t be driving it for very long.
Guys, i looked into custom tuning the edge when i was using mine, but decided against it b/c you still cant switch on the fly and you only get 3 positions. the evo is a good code reader, but i found it only really added maybe 40hp to my truck with edge tunes at the wheels. i would just get another chip with custom tunes that you can switch on the fly and keep the evo around for a code reader..
