My 1993 F250 4x4 with 351/5spd is using oil, had to add almost a liter after only 500km, the motor has 300,000 km on it, but doesn't smoke or burn blue. Don't seem to be dripping oil, driverside valve cover has old oil etc on it, but not smelling oil like I normaly wood from leaky valve cover, any other possibilities, o ly running 10/30 should I go up to a 10w40 or 10 w50?
Thanks, was lots of oil on breather filter when I replaced it, I also replaced pcv valve at same time, it was a motorcraft pcv valve , who knows maybe the original. Starting to realize this truck I just bought wasn't as maintained as I was led to believe, that is after nearly being able to pull ou some pretty siezed in rusty super worn plugs . Thanks, I'll see how oil consumption is with new pcv valve, was just panicing that I bought a real pile o' junk
i know how you feel. My 95 was purchased from my gpa. The only things he had replaced were: shocks, brake lines, ignition switch, tires, and possibly brake pads. Oh yeah, a new battery too(like that matters). Of course, when I offered 2500 for it, I thought this was a steal seeing as it only had 35900 miles on it. Well, I quickly came to realize I'm playing almost 15 years of catch up. In the 4-5 months I've owned it I've done: radiator flush/fill, fuel filter, gas tank/fuel pump, both radius arms(broke due to rust), both rear leaf spring shackles/hangers(also due to rust), running boards welded to frame(old mounts broke from rust), vac reservoir(rust), and routine stuff like oil. It's almost got 40k on it now and I'll soon do plugs/wires. Seems bad at first, but it feels good fixing stuff sometimes haha
