9" rear end

Hey guys. What years and models of these rear ends fit best on a 56 f100?

Yes. There's still some shock moun issues, and the 9" is a thicker tube diameter, but it works. There's a few threads on this and even a tech article. That article will also touch on the Explorer 8.8 if a 5x4.5 lug pattern is desired. Look at the top of the page, it should be buried in one of those stickies.

Thanks for the reply.

Is the bolt patter on the 57-72's the same as on my 56 right now? Would 9" from a van, explorer, stang, etc. work just as well?

Thanks in advance!

Yes 57-72 (and 73-96, though wider) all have the 5x5.5" BP. As well as vans. The '91 and newer Explorers only had 8.8's with 5x4.5" BP, and the early Stangs had 8" or 9" rears (rarer) with 5x4.5" BP. But the 57-72 pickups fit well.

i have one in my '54 panel (1971 f100), same bolt pattern, right width, good ratios and brakes. the only issues are the shock location is different (53-56 shocks behind axle and 9" in front of the axle) and the tube is bigger (3" dia). mid fifty sells the tie plates, u bolts and shock tabs (weld on). the previous owner did the swap on mine and i had to get the tie plates and i'm still dealing with the shock mounts he made. the 9" had wider leaf springs (2.5 or 3" i think) then the 53-56 (2"), the mid fifty tie plates are made for a 3" tube and 2" wide springs.
