F10 = F100 2WD
B = 300 1V 1-6
R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant.
627422 = 1965, assembled December 1964.
129" Wheelbase.
No COLOR code.
F100 2WD / 5,000 lbs. GVWR
D81: D = Light Beige Crush Vinyl & Medium Beige Ladder Pattern Woven Plastic // 81 = 81B Custom Cab.
F = Borg Warner T-18 4 Speed Manual Transmission.
08 = Ford 9" Rear Axle / 3.50-1 / non Limited Slip / 3300 lb. Rear Axle Capacity.
5,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
150 net HP @ 3600 RPM.
720815:
72 = San Jose (NorCal) Ford District Sales Zone Office, where the original selling dealer ordered the truck from.
0815 = Domestic Special Order number. Your truck was special ordered by the original purchaser, not "bought off the lot."
COLOR code blank: One reason your truck was special ordered, it was painted a non standard color.
When a vehicle (car or truck) is painted a color per the customers request that is not an RPO, there is no COLOR code. RPO: Regular Production Order.

I have found that most of those so-called decode books have errors and omissions.
For example, what does your Mustang decode book say about no COLOR code, DSO, and RPO?
btw: The above info was decoded from the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog.
Thanks for the decode.
My Mustang decode book does talk about 6 digit DSO codes but no mention of special paint options. I do know you could order a Mustang in a non-standard color.
The truck is a light tan/beige & white(I'm guessing Whimbelton) two-tone. Looks similar to a tan color chip I saw at the paint store for '73 trucks, they don't have the '65 chips.
Your decode for the engine says 300cid. The air cleaner decal says 240cid. I realize the engine may have been changed at some point, but the truck seems pertty original. I bought it from the 2nd owner about 2 months ago. I going to try and contact him to see if he still has any info to help me contact the original owner. The 2nd owner also told me the rear end was a 4:11, I guessing if there is an axle tag you could check that for me. I'll do the spin the drive shaft and count the wheel turns method too.
Does anyone sell original or original style repo interiors for a '65 Custom Cab?
I have the '65 car & truck chips and they're the original factory Ford chips the dealers used at the parts counter.
The chips are glued on to a single piece of heavy paper. I also have the 1966/67 car/truck chips.
However, since there is no COLOR code, there will not be a chip that matches, truck...or car.

Since the VIN engine code is B .. a 300 I-6 was factory installed.
B was used for the 300 I-6 from 1965 thru 1982.
1965/67 F100/350 VIN engine codes:
1965: J = 240 I-6 / B = 300 I-6 / D = 352 2V.
1966/67: A = 240 I-6 / B = 300 I-6 / Y = 352 2V.
Where did you get this VIN? Off the registration or off the Warranty Plate? *
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Warranty Plate: 08 is the AXLE code for 3.50-1 / 10 is the AXLE code for 4.11-1. Both: 9" without Limited Slip.
If Limited Slip was factory installed, the rear axle could be either a Dana 44, or a Dana 60. No Limited Slip 9 inchers in F100's until 1968.
The rear axle ID tag originally was installed at around 5 o'clock under one of the bolts that attaches the carrier to the housing.
Do not be surprised if the tag is missing.

Original interiors: smsauto.com .. located in Oregon.
Your truck is 44 years old and has had multiple owners, so who knows what could have been swapped around? For example....
* COMPARE the VIN on the registration with the VIN on the Warranty Plate to see if they match.
Ppl replaced left doors due to damage with used doors. Did not install the original and correct Warranty Plate on the replaced door.
If the VIN's do not match, guess what? Some/all of the info decoded in post #2 is in-correct!
I'll start looking for all the #s I can find. Let the degreasing begin. I know the Ford tag is on the carb. The exhaust mainfold # is C5AE 9430 E. Where on the block should I be able to find a #?
Paint question. Being special order it will still be one of the Ford colors for that year right?(e.g. a truck color(just not in a two tone combo on the regular list to choose from) or one of the Ford car colors available like Galaxie, Falcon, etc.)
Thanks again for the info.
WRONG for 1965!
Paint question. Being special order it will still be one of the Ford colors for that year right?
No, I already told you that. It's a color a customer chose either related to his business, or a personal preference.
For example, Ford has sold trucks to Coca-Cola for decades. Is Coca-Cola red a Ford color? No...but Ford has painted those trucks that color per the customers request.
What year is your truck? 1965
What was the last year for the 262 I-6? 1964
What was the first year for the 300? 1965
B is the VIN engine code for 1961/64 262 I-6.
B is the VIN code for 1965/82 300 I-6.
See my signature, I did not start doing this jazz yesterday!
