You should only have two possible cases and they both are the B/W 1356 case with one being an electric/push button case and a manual style. There should be a blue tag on it attached to the case bolts that would have some id numbers on it.

Are these a decent transfer case i know the one in my truck has been but do they have a good reputation. I am currently doing a restoration on my truck and i am updating and rebuilding everything so i want a strong reliable transfer case and i am wondering if the stock one when rebuilt would be the answer or should i go a different route?

I think you could have either a BW1345 or a BW1356. If you inspect the transfercase, you should find the number(1345 or 1356) on it somewhere. The 1356 is the stronger of the two but has a problem with the oil pump failing. The pump is poorly secured and eventually breaks the mounting bracket resulting in the loss of forward motion. Several people(including a friend of mine) have spent the time/money to replace a transmission when the t-case was the culprit.

It should be a 1356. After a certain point that's all Ford used in this generation.
