I think I need to get my exhaust manifold gasket & studs replace on the passenger side of My 98 expedition XLT 4.6L. I was travel home from Niagara Falls last weekend and I notice a loud sound comming from my front engine. So I pulled in to my driveway and rev'd the engine a lil and there a loud exhaust sound now and the smell of exhaust in the front of the engine. Do anyone know what it might be It sound like I have a aftermarket exhaust system on my EXPY. Also how much will it cost to replace the gasket & the studs. I dont know how many studs is worn but I had a lil exhaust leak before I took my trip to Niagara Falls. Now its very loud. Do I need to replace the whole manifold, gasket & studs?. Any help hints will help..
Good chance a few of the studs have rusted and broke, hopefully the manifolds are OK so studs and gaskets should only run you 20 or 30 bucks if you plan on doing the work your self. Some people have just replaced the manifolds with shorty headers. The trick is getting the broken studs out, which if you take your time can be done. Now if you plan on taking the truck somewhere and have this done ain't cheap.
i may have some shorty headers for sale. they didnt fit my truck. they are for 97-98 only. i think 4.6 and 5.4 are the same, but you can check that. i pad about $400 shipped from summit. if i get the ok to sell, you can have them for $250 plus ups. they are bbk; p/n 3516.
