No, it's not. The wiring doesn't keep it connected, there is a "tin nut"the screws on to the end of the shaft. There is also a "spacer"... it's like a tube that keeps the sensor portion (where the wires attach) pushed firmly in to place, then the tin nut secures it all. Sounds like your tin nut came loose. Check in the valley of your engine for the nut & spacer.
