Mudflaps; Quick, easy, good, and cheap.
I got these on Ebay for peanuts and they keep the mud off my running boards. They have been through many miles of back country logging roads and do their job well. You could get some heavy truck flap material and cut to size for the rear. Also you could use 3/4" fender washers for extra holding power if you think you need it. The point here is; You will be very limited if you try to match the OEM holes up.
The middle picture is the stock rear. They stick out a bit but it is needed when you turn the wheels. You could easily attach a large flap at the rear using far left, right, and bottom of the wheel well as mounting points.

Yea, my neighbor caught a glimpse of them and won't even talk to me any more. Sorry to share the idea with you all. I know they don't look good and never said they did but I do a lot of offroading and got tired of having my running boards all muddy. Also, the screws are a little tacky but you don't see them unless you are changing the tire. Mirrors and license plates are ugly too what what are you doing to do?

They don't look that bad to me. I would put a matching set on the rear to balance it out. Otherwise, if it does the job you want then party on.
Keep sharing ideas. That's what this place is about. The good, the bad and the ugly.

Don't be. May not be some folks cup of tea. But there may be others that take the idea and make it work for them.
