ranger mods
hi im new in this section of the site. i just got a 91 ranger with the 4.0l, auto tranny and trans case. i was wondering what mods i could do to it on a tight budget. i had an 89 stright 6 and swapped the throttle body out for one off a 5.0. i was wondering if i could do something simmular here? also i havent got to crawlin under to take a close look at the transfer case but could i put a stick on there and get rid of that retarded auto 4x4? anyother suggestions would be great!

Ok the two best mods you can do are a new catback system, and a new intake. The intake is debatable. I would recommend an AFE kit, though finding any kit for that old a system is hard. You could probably get good results with modifying the stock intake to use a washable dry element. The TB will do you nothing, the 4.0L TB is more than large enough. Headers can get you a little more power, but get smog legal ones, they are made better. Beyond that, not on a budget, and the stock power can already tear up the tranny if you aren't careful. The trick is to be smarter than the truck.
