With all the clunkers moving to the scrapyards, this seems like a good time to look for some good used tires for my 01 Escape 4wd. I know I need to match the size with the current tires, and I want M+S rating cuz I will be driving in snow.
From another thread, I know I want to avoid Continental brand tires.
Nothing wrong with used tires. We all drive on them every day.
Did they allow any parts to come off the so-called clunkers before they crushed them? Or did they allow perfectly good tires and wheels get destroyed with all the other perfectly good parts?
I used to have good luck buying tires off guys who put bigger tires and wheels on their trucks. I think the most I ever paid was about $25 or $30 each for an entire set of tires and wheels. Usually low mile OEM. This was 15-20 years ago when I had my Ranger.
Search the local classifieds, craigslist and the like and if you are patient, you'll find a good set.
