Does anybody know what would make a 81 302 2v carb throttle stick at pretty high rpm. It does it on both cold and warm engine (choke open) and even if i take the gas pedal linkage cable off. It will idle if you kick it down hard, or manually do it on the carb. The carb feels like its in a bind and very stiff, but when i turn motor off, the carb throttle is smooth and not in a bind. Is the carb just messed up? I'm going to replace it with a 4v intake and carb but hate to not fix this problem as it might be there with the new set-up. You know bad vac lines, air pump, egr valve, etc. Any help would be appreciated. The plugs are black and sooty. I know that means its rich.
maybe firstly try cleaning the carb well with gunk carb cleaner. there may be a bild up of gum and stuff with needs to be cleaned out. or maybe a cable is broken or a vacuum line somewhere
I had this problem on my 84 and believe it or not, there were no return springs on the throttle which made it act like it was sticking. Atozone had a universal set for $3 and it worked like a champ. I didn't mean to insult your inteligence if this wasn't it, but it worked for me.
