One clunk per tire rotation

Ok, My 01 4x4 with 79K has a clunk coming from the front end sounding like from the left side. It only can be heard at very slow speeds (5-10mph). It sound just like a screw in the tire at every rotation (and no it's not a screw). If I turn the wheel, the sound goes away. If I just barely, and I mean barley, step on the brake it goes away. I just put new front pads on just before it started. Does the caliper have anything to do with it? I had a 97 Expy that did the exact same thing before getting rid of it. Since it happened to both of mine it had to happen to others as well. Anyone know the cause and or solution. It's kind of embarrassing to go through a parking lot with people around who might hear my Expy clunking. Sometimes i just barely touch the brake to make it stop if people are close to me.

The rotors are just slightly warped where I can only feel them when I brake at lower speeds. But the rotors have been that way for the last 10,000 miles and this sound just started. I dont see any way the rotors could be making this sound. The rotors were not warped on my 97 when it had the same sound start.

Your brake pads are probably a little loose.

Assuming you reassembled the caliper and pads correctly, it sounds like you could have a bad CV joint on the front left axle.

How would loose brake pads make a clunk sound every wheel rotation? There is not much to reassembling the calipers. Pretty much idiot proof. I would think out of everything Ive heard the CV joint may sound like the best bet so far. But would barley holding the brake make the noise go away if it was a cv joint?

I am SURE you have checked this, but I had that exact same problem, turned out a rock got wedged ino the treads. Of course, NOW, I dont have enough tread left for that to happen, LOL.

Every rotor has a high and low spot. With a loose brake assembly, it can clunk every time that high spot in the rotor comes around and touches the pads.

Applying the brake (even slightly) places a load on the brake and/or axle assemblies. It's this load that is causing the slack to be taken up. This is the clunk noise you're hearing.
