The last couple weeks when i have driven the 72,ive noticed that the passenger side of the windshield has fogged up a little bit,and it has been getting worse last couple times.....Sounds like the heater core is going out.
Its a 72 f250 without A/C.......before i go out and mess with it,or look at a chiltons guide,is a heater core replacement much more than an hour or two job on this model?
Ive replaced heater cores in other vehicles, but not on a bumpside Ford.
I know it’s a pain with the A/C; without you still have to drop the entire heater assembly. Not difficult but it can be time consuming. The last one I changed without A/C was over 20 years ago, all day thing as I recall (of course I was 16, more energy but les smarts). The last one I changed with A/C; I started 2 years ago and I just got it back in the truck (still not hooked up) couple weeks ago.
they unbolt from the engine compartment and drop out under dash kind of a pain because the vent on the side I just pulled the hole thing.they sell a new seal kit while you have it out.
without a/c it should only take an hour of your time. undo the three bolts on the firewall holding the unit up, drain coolant, disconnect hoses, disconnect cables, disconnect fresh air boot, use 5/16 socket to disassemble heater unit,
one things for sure though i wish the heater core was in the engine compartment and easy to get to with an access panel like on some trucks ive seen. whenever somethings not easy to work on its for a reason, JOB SECURITY. keeps people their jobs by turning a easy thing into a complicated one.
