Plastic fastener removal
Plastic fastener removal
How do you remove those little black plastic fasteners that Ford places all over these trucks, that are used on such items as the trim around the wheel well on lariat models, and that hold the insulation up under neath the glove box etc.....they are black with a phillips head on them but when I put a screw driver to em all they do is spin...in feeling the underside of it seems like it just pops out...but i dont want to destroy them trying to remove.....anyone that has removed these before please fill me in...thanks!
Need to loosen them off then they should be able to pull out, they are designed so that when the screw is tightened the fastener spreads out behind whatever it is fastening to. Might have to hold the part that the screw is into in order to loosen it off though if they are just spinning on you.
i agree with rickf92592 they are a pita! sometimes you can try to wedge two pocket screwdrivers between the screw and body and pry the screw up a little then spin it out. id swear them things are designed for one time use because most of them will not come apart easy, their usually stripped. i like the push pin type better that gm. used for many years
You know what works really good for removing them is one of the little flat bars used for pulling nails get one that is 6 inches long and about an inch wide. The fasteners might be reusable but alot of time ones you remove them more than once they begin to fall out buy some new ones they are cheap if you buy them in the ten packs at lowes, home depot or napa.
